Who We Are
Rainbow Unicorn Games is an early-stage startup gaming studio with a mission to change the games industry forever. Our vision is to give voice to the diverse and marginalized populations and to change the way games are made. To help us in this we are currently looking to grow our team! Working remotely from anywhere in the world (some availability for meetings in US time zones needed) on our first major project you’ll have the chance to be on the frontlines of pushing the artistic and narrative potential of mobile games.
What you’ll be doing
On this project, you will work directly with executive leadership (we’re called The Coven) to define the world of and game play of our first game, Romancing Jan - a multi-platform 3D Narrative Life Sim that brings to life a world of alternative history rich in diversity and multiple cultural voices. Specifically, at this time you’ll help with one or more of the following:
Participate in building out our core game loop to create the initial vertical slice demo of the game.
Define and iterate on game systems.
Design and build out a diverse set of characters in a re-imagined historical inspired fantasy setting
Design and build out spaces for these characters to interact in
Foster and grow our presence and engagement to grow our community on social networks
Write dialogue for our characters that guide our players through the drama and gameplay of building up their reputation and estate through romance, mystery, business, politics, fashion, etc.
Implement game system designs into our 3D Unity demo build
Grow our team with a positive, whole human centered style, and Radical Candor approach.

Compensation for this role will be in the form of a revenue share arrangement with no payment available until launch of the product. All members of the team are currently working under equity or revenue share until we can secure funding and or revenue. The way this will work is that an hourly rate will be set upon signing your contract. Hours worked toward this project will be logged and once the game starts taking in revenue, the accumulated value of work based on the recorded hours will be paid back over time according to a payment schedule in the contract agreement.
If this sounds like you or even close to you, we don’t expect 100% matches and love a surprise, please note your interest here:
